Today's WAGASHI, Japanese traditional sweets tea ceremony lesson

It's getting warmer and warmer day by day in Japan and SAKURA blooming timing expectation was released by Japanese Meterological agency.

According to that in Tokyo, SAKURA will start to bloom on 21st in Tokyo.


Spring will come soon!  During vernal equinoctial week called OHIGAN ( from 18-24th this year) in Japan.

During Ohigan, families visit graves of relatives and holed memorial services for our ancestors. And we eat OHAGI, rice cake wrapped up with sweet AZUKI beans.

At my tea ceremony class yesterday, my teacher prepared new style OHAGI as sweets of the day.

I served OHAGI with coconut flakes and dried YUZU, Japanese citrus peel and it was very good. This is another "Updated Tradition"!!!

I've heard this sweets shop is very popular and people have to make a queue!

Our teacher prepared another sweets too, dried Japanese persimmon & sugar coated black beans.

Simple and very healthy sweets!


We have learned tea ceremony using box. Inside of box, there are tiny beautiful tools collected by our teacher.

It's another side of joy of tea ceremony to collect tools which designed with seasonal motifs.
